Two 'big' stories today in the sports world. Both equally unimportant and equally over blown.
The first one is Serena Williams' near collapse during her match today. The tide of the match had started to turn against serena when she conveniently fell tot he ground screaming because of a cramp in her calf. I'm sure she did have a cramp, but it was clearly exaggerated and helped fill in some time before the rain delay was called. After the rain delay, at 3-2 up on serve, Williams asked for a toilet break, but was told to wait until after the next game. She broke to go 4-2, then strangely enough no longer needed to relieve herself, having taken the lead. The Williams sisters are ugly as sin and can count their success in women's tennis on the fact that they are for all appearances--men.
Annoying story number two. Steroid user Bonds voted into the all star game. Not surprising considering the millions of dolalrs the Giants must have spent on the advertising push made over the last couple of weeks. The most idiotic part of the result are these moronic commentators all over the news trying to claim that this is proof that baseball fans like Bonds and wanted him in the game. The reality is that Bonds is still the most hated man in baseball,a nobody outside the bay area wants to see him be rewarded for anything.

Children of Hurin
UPS just dropped of my copy of The Children of Hurin. This easily has my favorite fantasy cover, the gold lettering and Alan Lee's illustration look very nice. For $14.30 shipped, not bad.
If you enjoy discussions about baseball, and you're tired of the subpar official mlb message boards, the prosports daily forums are pretty decent.

I decided to start up another blog here on blogspot for a couple of reasons. Mostly because I like to post a lot of odds and ends and it's not convenient to make a dozen posts on myspace to do it.
